Hearing Loss Survival" and Hearing Technology Seminars

Hearing loss is an extremely complex condition than can have serious effects upon personality, communicative behaviour and relationships if left untreated for too long. Indeed the American American Academy of Matrimonial Lawers, have indicated that poor communication is most often the catalyst for all other marital problems, and the main reason for divorce.  Unfortunately, very few audiologists or audiometrists address these issues in any serious depth during the consultation process, partly due to the pressure of clinical time demands and partly because very few university based audiology training schools focus much attention on the psycho-social implications - the "human" side of hearing loss. Consequently, all too frequently patients need for education and understanding about the implications of their own hearing loss for themselves and others, gets little or no attention.

At HEARING BIZ "Hearing Loss Survival Seminars" - these issues are directly spoken about in considerable depth by Graham Weir who can relate to these issues both from his own experience of growing up with a profound hearing loss and also as a result of his professional training to Masters degree level in counseling of the hearing impaired, a degree he earned in 1980 at the world's most prestigious institute for deafness studies, Gallaudet University, Washington D.C. U.S.A.

In just 60 minutes, you will....

  1. Understand various types of hearing loss and experience what they actually sound like.
  2. Take advantage of the insights Graham has learned from his own personal experience with hearing loss and hearing aids.
  3. Learn how to prevent hearing loss from damaging personality, communicative behaviour and relationships.
  4. See and hear a demonstration of the amazing new developments in hearing technology and how it improves hearing. Even in a room full of noise.
  5. Discover how to take advantage of the various cost reduction options and rebates for hearing aids and how to choose technology that best meets your hearing needs and budget.

These seminars are conducted at various intervals and locations and can also be run especially for special interest groups such as retirement villages, community clubs, seniors groups etc.

A less in-depth presentation is given during every initial consultation to ensure each patient's needs for education about the impact of their own hearing loss is fully understood.  This session can be particularly useful for spouses or other family members who will be able to experience an accurate simulation of exactly what the hearing impaired person is hearing in various environments, as well as hear the difference any new technology can be expected to make. This demonstration and counseling alone can be an enormous stress reliever for all parties and set the stage for successful adaptation to the inevitable learning curve associated with any new hearing aid fitting.
